Much has been made of the unofficial Christmas truce of 1914, when German soldiers fraternised with their British adversaries and vice-versa. It is reflected in the war diary of the 2nd Seaforths.
Hard frost, misty. Not a shot fired and we were able to walk about in the open, even after the mist rose. Had some trouble in keeping the Germans away from our lines. Put some more wire out and did a good deal of work by day.
